1. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Walk:
Orange Shirt Day Walk is being planned for TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 this year, so as to allow RVS, Ginew, and Emerson students to attend. We understand that this is a work day for many, but encourage you to attend if you are able. Please mark your calendars, and see the below information!
Steps Toward Reconciliation, in partnership with Border Land School Division, will arrange for a school bus to transport Altona residents to the event at Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation. The bus will be leaving at 10:15am. If you would like to secure a spot on the bus, please contact us as soon as possible at stepsaltona@gmail.com.
When: Tuesday September 29th @ 11:00am (bus leaving TCE in Altona at 10:15am)
Where: Residential School Monument at Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation
What: Truth and Reconciliation Walk from Residential School Monument to Ginew School
Who: This event is planned by Roseau Valley School, Emerson School, and Ginew School
The walk will be followed by a time of eating, learning, and a friendship dance! Please dress for the weather, and wear your orange shirts!
2. Documentary Screening:

The National Geographic documentary Sugarcane (2024), by Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie, is about an investigation into abuse, missing children, and unmarked graves at the St. Joseph’s Mission Indian Residential School in Canada.

3. Book Study:
The Mishomis Book: The Voice of the Ojibway by Edward Benton-Benai
Traditional stories show what a culture values. The Mishomis Book explores Ojibway values and Midewiwin teachings such as: respect for all living things, connection to nature, strong community and relationships, and passing knowledge to future generations.
