Introduction to Marla

As a kid I used to “play church” with my sister.  Apparently, I was always the preacher. Despite this, I had no intention of being a pastor. After university I taught for two years before being at home for 8 years with young children. In 1999 I was called by my home church (Sargent Ave. Mennonite) to a specific part-time family ministry position. I landed up pastoring at SAMC for 23 years, taking one-year leaves to attend Seminary in Indiana and to volunteer at Friedenshaus in Ludwigshafen, Germany. My retirement in Aug. 2022 lasted six months before I was asked to take on an interim Chaplain position at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home. The Spirit has paved the way, and I continue to be inspired by how God meets us in caring communities. I am excited to be with and learn from the Seeds Community over the next half year.

I’ve been married to Karl for 36 years. We are parents of three married children and 4 grand children. I like to walk, cycle, spend time outdoors in all seasons, read, camp, grow vegetables, pick blueberries (any berry) and spend time with our family.
