Psalm 138
Lectio Divina {Divine Reading} Read. Reflect. Respond. Rest.
Read
This morning I saw that today’s reading was a Psalm. I couldn’t get to reading it right away, but I began looking forward to it. For some reason I felt eager to find myself in a Psalm, no matter what it said!
Reflect
The opening three verses are saturated with words of thanks. I let my heart join the Psalmist’s in thanking God with just the simple words: “thank you”. Thank you for stepping in the moment I call out to you (v.3), for knowing everything about me no matter the distance (v. 5) – and I confess that any distance has been created by me. And thank you for finishing what you started in me (v. 8); your eternal love is incomprehensible.
Respond
The words “thank you” sound kind of insignificant and not nearly enough for all that you have done for me, God, and yet there really is no other way to say it. Thank you! Thank you!
Rest
The eternal love of God that never quits. It’s worth resting in!
