As you know from news reports, the Syrian refugee situation continues to be desperate.
Build a Village has agreed to sponsor 5 high need Syrian families (in partnership with MCC and Canada Immigration). They will be arriving within the next 5 months.
Our 5 families have now been identified and include 33 children ranging in age from 1 to 17 years of age. The goal of Build a Village is to help these families establish a better life in Canada.
We know that God has a plan for our families although at this point we have not been given all the pieces of His plan … if you have ideas about the following , we would love to chat …
1) Housing for large families – one of our families has 11 people, two families consist of 10 people each. The biggest challenge will be to provide housing for these 5 families. Any and all ideas are welcome.
2) Volunteers – we need people to walk alongside newcomer families. You could volunteer an hour a month, an hour a week or more. We will need volunteers to help with transportation, English skills, banking and more.
3) Storage Space – we have many people offering furniture and household items which is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately, our storage space is overflowing. If you can provide dry storage space for up to 6 months, please make contact.
4) Money – the entire area has been very supportive financially of Build a Village and for that we express our sincere appreciation. If you would like to help support these 5 families financially, you can mail a cheque to Build a Village, 218 Poplar Drive, Altona,, R0G 0B3 or talk to Ray Loewen or Curt Letkeman in person.
If you have ideas on how to help with any of the above needs, please contact …
