There is so much I love about this passage. The intertwining of the words Life and Light. The sense of anticipation I get when I read the first 4 verses. The sense of fullness I get when I read verse 14.
But what is speaking me today is verse 12 where it says in the Message:
“But whoever did want him,
who believed he was who he claimed
and would do what he said,
He made to be their true selves,
their child-of-God selves.”
It’s the words “true selves, their child-of-God selves” that keep returning to me. It speaks to what I long to be – of finding my whole identity in relationship with him. I pray for God to introduce me to my true self, and seek his presence so that I might embrace my true self and grow into it. It’s a process.
