Dear Steps Toward Reconciliation community,
Our committee is hosting an event this weekend, during the Sunflower Festival, and you are all warmly invited to attend.
Please mark your calendars and join us on Saturday July 29th at 1:00pm on the grounds of Gallery in the Park for the launch of our Orange Bench! If you’re curious about the orange bench, please see the attached graphics for a bit of a backstory or visit our Facebook or Instagram page for regular updates.
At this event, we’ll have the chance to hear Elder Peter Atkinson speak about treaties, and the opportunity to share the story about how this new travelling reconciliation bench came to be.
If you can’t make it on Saturday, be sure to look out for this bench as it moves throughout the community over the summer and fall. Accompanying the bench at each new location will be a variety of changing colourful storyboards with stories from our Indigenous friends and neighbours about resilience, reconciliation, and Indigenous history in Canada.
