Suprised by Jesus Again: A Conversation with Jason Byassee – Episode 18

In today’s episode of Define the Relationship podcast, we have a special guest Jason Byassee, who teaches preaching and biblical interpretation at the Vancouver School of Theology. Jason has recently written a book called Suprised by Jesus Again: Reading the Bible in Communion with the Saints, which is an invitation for Jesus followers to revisit the Bible with fresh eyes and with guidance from some ancient interpreters of Scripture.

This episode was recorded on the eve of the US elections, and so some of what we talk about relates to that context.

In this episode you will also learn about:

  • the connection Ted and Dar have to a church that Jason served in Boone, North Carolina and the cautionary tale of when Ted’s use of the maxim “better to ask forgiveness, than permission” didn’t work out too well.
  • how Jason takes full responsibility for the state of USA politics.
  • how the words “smoldering” and “erotic” have a place in a conversation about the Bible.

Enjoy!
