Isaiah 62:1-5
I read Isaiah 62:1-5 three times today through the lens of being worthy of love and belonging.
Reflect
Earlier today I had read and was pondering this quote: “If we want to fully experience love and belonging, we must believe that we are worthy of love and belonging” (Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection).
There were a number of words and phrases in the Isaiah passage that drew me in and spoke to me of love and belonging:
straight from the mouth of God.
You’ll be a stunning crown in the palm of God’s hand,
a jeweled gold cup held high in the hand of your God.
No more will anyone call you Rejected,
and your country will no more be called Ruined.
You’ll be called Hephzibah (My Delight)
If those words are for me today, I want to soak them in and marinate in them! And I realized that only when I believe I am worthy of such love and belonging, can I truly allow these words to sink deeply into my being and bring about any type of change in me. It is when I am open to receiving the words that deep healing, peace, and joy are released into my soul.

My prayer is a surrender to open myself to receiving these words. That they become more than words, but transform my identity into who God has created me to be. And in my prayer, I asked God “Why am I worthy such love and belonging in you?” and his answer is found in the last two lines of this passage: “And as a bridegroom is happy in his bride, so your God is happy with you.” Really?! That’s it?!
