How do we receive the One?

My reading was driven by a sense of joy and excitement – I find a lot of well-placed exclamation points will do that. And I thought, surely this is how we receive the One – with joy and excitement. Yet I still prayed for the Holy Spirit to make clear to me the words that are for me today. And there they were, somewhere around verse 5: “His ruling authority will grow, and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings.”
Reflect
There’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings. Sounds like an oxymoron? Isn’t something that is whole defined by its limits – that it has all it can have and no more? But the wholeness the Saviour brings will be unlimited. In a time when there seems to be unlimited brokenness, this sounds like a dream. Especially in the last couple of days when we have been confronted by brokenness beyond comprehension. What would it be like to hold up this promised wholeness that’s also beyond comprehension?
Respond
How do we receive the One who brings unlimited wholeness? Is there anything we could long for more? In the middle of what feels like unlimited pain and suffering, there’s this hope. Hope that’ ignited by excitement, grows with anticipation, and glows with joy. Hope for unlimited wholeness that is on its way.
Rest
What if we held out our own brokenness – unlimited as it feels – to the One who brings unlimited wholeness. Just sit, and let that love cover us. Come, Lord Jesus.
