The Mennonite Heritage Archives (610 Shaftesbury Blvd.) invites you to the launch of Werner Toews’ book “Sketches from Siberia: The Life of Jacob D. Sudermann” on February 11 at 7 pm.   Aileen Friesen from the Centre for Transnational Mennonite Studies will also speak about the KGB Archives project in Ukraine.  This project will be an important development in our understanding of Mennonite life in the early Soviet era.  Reception with light refreshments to follow.

The Mennonite Heritage Archives is partnering with Refuge 31 Films in their production of “Volendam: Ship of Freedom.”  The film will tell the story of the Mennonite Refugees who fled Europe after WWII.  If you were on the ship during the Feb 1947 trip to Argentina (or your parent or relative was) and are interested in telling your story, Refuge 31 Films would like to interview you or your relative on camera. We are also interested in still photographs or even film footage from that period of the Volendam ship itself as well as the refugee camps in Germany.  Please contact: [email protected] – Subject: VOLENDAM PASSENGER / PHOTOS
