Proverbs 13

There are so many truths in this chapter. There is one that stuck out for me this morning; “A refusal to correct is a refusal to love……” verse 24.

A refusal to correct is a refusal to love!?!? I don’t really appreciate correction all that much. Especially when it comes from those who are closest to me; people I love and trust the most. My reaction to correction is not that great, but sometimes upon reflection I can see the truth of what they’re seeing and saying.

I’ve experienced your correction Jesus, and I can’t say that it’s been any easier to hear, but I do understand that you love me purely and there are no imperfect motives behind your discipline. This comforts me. Keep me true to the path you’ve laid before me, help me stay true to your calling, give me courage to accept your correction. And Lord, give me the courage to speak into the lives of people in my life. Help me to lovingly, prayerfully, humbly offer words of correction, but only if those words are from you, never out of my own self-centered motives.

Amen
